Cozy Living Room Reveal With World Market via

Guys! Our living room is almost finished! I'm so excited to finally start showing room tours from around our new home, and so thankful to World Market for helping us create the perfect cozy space. When we moved into our house the first thing I wanted to do was to get our living room together ... It's where we naturally spend a majority of our time from me working on the couch most days to date nights at home complete with all the ice cream on the weekends.

One thing that I always seem to neglect is updating our space according to different seasons ... Last year was the first time we had really decorated for Christmas, and it totally lit a fire under me! Every season I update my wardrobe with new clothes, so why wouldn't I do the same thing for our home? I mean, if we're being real here, the closest I've gotten to making our home super cozy for fall in the past is by hoarding way too many pumpkin and apple scented candles. 😅

When World Market reached out and wanted to help us breathe some of my favorite season into our space, it was a no brainer for me to say yes! I mean, have you seen their new fall collection? It's seriously amazing ... and if haven't seen it yet, you need to make a trip to your local store ASAP!

Now, back to all the cozy vibes of our new living room! One of the hardest mental blocks I've had to get over in designing this room is the color scheme ... I wanted something that would carry us through each season, but wasn't too 'in your face' bright. Y'all should've seen our second apartment ... I so wish I was blogging back then!

We literally painted EVERY single inch of that 900 sqft space. Think bright poppy orange, aqua, candy apple green, and mustard yellow. All on the walls. And also all in view from the front door. 🙈 I so wish I had some advice like this from a trusted designer back then. It would have made all the difference in the world!

Ever since recovering from the headache that those blinding walls caused for the year we lived in that apartment, I've stayed clear of bright colors. Even after swearing them off for so long, I knew that we needed a little bit of color to liven things up since there are nothing but muted and neutral tones naturally worked into the design of our house. That's where this statement rug, and all of the pillows / blankets / poufs from World Market pushed me a bit out of my comfort zone, and straight into loving some bright color again!

If I'm being honest, this rug has been totally throwing me off until recently. That hot pink in the corner? Yeah, it totally made me regret our rug choice. That is until World Market stepped in! They wanted to see a space that was super cozy and ready for fall which to me means new pillows, blankets, and accessories ... Now, this might not be your traditional view of a 'fall decorated space',  but these cozy textures seriously have made all the difference in the world!

It's no secret that I'm not a huge fan of the cooler months (winter is #theworst) so keeping color in our space was a top priority for me. It's the one area that I can control, and I don't see the point in darkening things up inside when nature is already taking daylight away from us in the first place! The one thing that came to mind when I was trying to think of how I was going to bring some warmth and cozy vibes into our living room was playing with texture. Wood, leather, knit, linen, fringe, woven fabric ... all of those textures played a huge part in making our space ready for the new season without compromising our color scheme!

So, what do you think? I'm personally totally in love with everything about this space now, but you know, I also designed it. 🙈 If you're a decorating pro, or have any advice for me, let me know! All of the room details (including all of this sweet stuff from World Market) is all linked at the bottom of this post! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go curl up with one of these cozy throw blankets, light one of my favorite fall candles (you need this one and this one in your life), and pretend like it's not still 90 degrees outside. Happy Weekend! ❤️

The Heart Stuff

The Heart Stuff via

I unintentionally took a step back from my life online recently, and I found myself falling straight into a few weeks of soul searching ... I traded my usual habit of sharing everything online with opening up a fresh journal to go back to the basics of pen + paper, and it was the best decision I could have made! I've been feeling really uninspired, and just exhausted with everything that comes with trying to keep up with the standard I've set for myself. A good heart reset and soul search session always works best when it's unplanned, don't you think? When it just kind of happens, and you have no other choice but to give into it.

I always seem to find myself going through phases of refining my voice when there's a big life change ahead ... of struggling with what I really want my message to the world to be. Questioning whether what I'm putting out into the universe is making a difference, if I'm helping someone, or if what I'm doing has any true impact whatsoever. This time around answering these questions is even more intensified! I'm not only thinking through the message I want to put out into the world, but one that I'll be proud to have my daughter read back on one day. I want to create a space that is truly me, one that we can look back on as a family and see everyday for exactly what is was; good or bad, and also one that serves others that are in the same season of life as I am (where are my new mama friends at!?). I'm totally blaming all of these thoughts on the fact that we are getting SO CLOSE to Emmy girl's arrival (5.5 weeks!!!). My entire purpose in life is about to be flipped upside down, because there is no doubt in my mind that this baby girl is about to take over every aspect of my being, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The one thing that I kept circling back to when I was working through why I felt so uninspired was expectation. There's a ton of pressure that comes with hitting publish on a post like this one when people expect certain things from you based on a "brand" that you've spent years so carefully curating. I'm in a constant state of having to remind myself that this space, my social media accounts ... all of it is a reflection of my story at this point in my life, and I need to let those expectations fall by the wayside in favor of sharing the things that I personally want (and sometimes need) to share. Regardless if they "flow" with my feed or not. Basically a lesson my momma's been preaching to me for years ... It may sound like a simple fix, but it's honestly something I've been struggling with ever since I hit publish on my first blog post over four years ago. Keeping up with what people expect to see from me, knowing the "right way" to do things in the back of my mind, and all of the joy that comes from playing the comparison game has had me in a total creative block in every aspect of my life.

I've never been a huge fan of reading super deep posts all the time. I can't tell you how many people I've unfollowed because everything was just so serious, and honestly, too much of overly emotional talk can be kind of draining (regardless of how inspiring it's intended to be). Well, let's just blame it on these third trimester hormones because those types of posts are what I'm craving so much more of. Real people sharing their real lives and building real connections. I've found myself going back to the people I unfollowed forever ago because it was all just so much, and unfollowing others that only show the highlight reel of their lives. How can I expect to build any sort of relationship with you all based on the story of my life that I'm sharing if that story is carefully planned out weeks in advance to look completely put together all the time? The simple answer is; I can't. And why would I want to keep up the veil that everything is totally in order all the time? Isn't the real stuff ... the messy stuff ... where the magic of social media really happens? At least I'm hoping that's the case because y'all, I'm a self-proclaimed hot mess 98% of the time.

So, friends, here's to more heart, less planning, a heck of a lot less stress (🙌), and sharing more real life centered around the awesome community you've helped me build in this space. Oh, and if you're still reading this novel, THANK YOU! I do have one favor to ask ... If you could leave a comment over on this photo on Instagram sharing where YOUR heart is right now, or even just share what kind of posts make you excited to show up to my blog or Instagram feed, it would mean the world!

Summer Fun Bucket List With Dr Pepper

Summer Fun Bucket List With Dr. Pepper via #pickyourpepper #walmart #ad

Can someone please explain to me how we're already so far into summer? The fact that it’s crazy hot outside, hanging by the pool is an option every day, and we’re only a little over a month out from the arrival of our sweet Emmy girl is blowing my mind. Every summer I make a bucket list of things that I want to do, but this year is a little different as we prepare for our last couple of months as a family of two!

I mean, if we’re being honest here, if you give me some sunshine, tan lines, popsicles, time near the water with my people, and a (literally ice cold) Dr Pepper, I’m pretty much set for a perfect summer. We had all of that and a whole lot more a few weeks ago when we were on Lake Cumberland for my family’s annual houseboat trip which is where all of these photos are from!

So, let’s get to it! Here are just a few of the things that I’ve narrowed down from my list that I want to do before the end of the summer!

Find A Favorite Farmer’s Market

There are so many awesome farmer’s markets around Louisville that we have yet to explore. I’ve wanted to find one that we really love for a couple of years now to support local businesses, pick up my weekly flower run, and stock up on our fruits and veggies for the week ahead! I have a feeling it’ll be a lot easier for us to jump from market to market without a new baby in tow. 😉

Create the perfect Dr Pepper Ice Cream Float recipe

One of my favorite things to do at my grandparent’s house in the summer when I was growing up was to make homemade peach and strawberry ice cream. My love for ice cream has definitely stuck around as an adult + my favorite sweet treat these days is a really good Ice Cream Soda Float. It’s probably no surprise that I’m working on putting one together with my number one drink of choice … Dr Pepper! Seriously, y’all. How good does that sound! I’ll definitely be sharing the recipe once I find the perfect flavor of homemade ice cream to pair with Dr Pepper ... Heading out to Walmart to pick up all the ingredients later this afternoon for another trial run! It’s going to be the bomb, I promise. 🙌

Go to an outdoor concert

One of mine and Sean’s favorite things to do together is to go to a show + jam out to really great live music. It’s one of the first things that we bonded over when we started dating seven years ago, and music is something that we are both still crazy passionate about! There are so many great artists heading to Louisville this summer, and you can bet that we’ll be at a majority of their shows!

Spend a week at the lake

Like I mentioned in the start of this post, I can already check this one off my list! I just got back a few weeks ago from spending an entire week at Lake Cumberland on a houseboat with my entire family. We’ve been taking this trip for about fifteen years now, and it’s the perfect opportunity for us to disconnect from the world for an entire week! As me and all of my sisters get older, I think we’re starting to appreciate the time to get out in nature and disconnect a little bit more. We go out fishing every morning and night, explore different coves in the kayaks (y'all should've seen me getting in and out of this thing being 7 months pregnant at the time 😂), jet ski until our hearts are content (I seriously missed doing that this year!), and just spend quality time together that we so rarely get to experience.

Take a weekend trip

Something that I’ve been consistently reminding Sean over the last few weeks is that I’d really love to take a quick weekend trip before Emerson gets here. Whether it’s a quick trip to Nashville for a concert and to explore the city, or heading up to Cincinnati to go to the zoo and IKEA … Either way, I think it’d be fun to get away just the two of us for a few days to disconnect, and spend some time just hanging out without any distractions.

There are so many other things that I could add to this list, but I’m trying this new thing where I’m trying to not totally overwhelm myself. 😂 We already have so many things planned to do with work, getting our new house put together, and preparing for our sweet girl’s arrival that I thought it’d be best to keep this list short + sweet! Which of these bucket list items are you going to be adding to your list? Let’s be real here, I’m really looking forward to that Dr Pepper Ice Cream Float + I’m kind of kicking myself that I haven’t checked that one off my list yet. 😅
