Laid Back Summer Style Essentials

Happy (almost) first official day of Summer, y'all! After being on the lake for a week, I'm seriously missing the cool breeze, and the option to jump in the lake if it ever got too hot out! Not that I ever took advantage of jumping in the lake because, you know, the whole not knowing what kind of creatures are swimming underneath me thing, but I miss that I at least had the option to jump in if I wanted to. 😂 The crazy Kentucky heat has already decided to make an appearance, and just like that it's time start pulling out all of the seasonal must haves that we've missed so much. Keep on scrolling to check out some of my personal laid back summer style essentials! ☀️

A Good Basic Tee

If there’s one thing I’ve missed since being pregnant it’s having a go-to tee that I can just throw on and walk out the door. I found this babydoll styled one in my favorite color from Roolee Boutique, and the definition right above my belly is making me want it in every color they have! A good basic tee (or tank!) is a total necessity for me in the summer with as much running around as we do … Whether it’s heading over to my parent’s house for the night to hang by the pool, or running out to grab ice cream, you can’t go wrong!

Comfy Everyday Sandals

I really think that a solid pair of neutral shoes that you can wear with anything and everything are the most underrated part of everyone’s wardrobe. I’m a creature of habit, and once I find a pair of shoes that don’t kill my feet, and don’t look ridiculous, I pretty much live in them.

Typically my go-to pair are my black TOMS, but since my feet are swelling like no other (#pregnantgirlprobs), I don’t foresee me fitting into anything but my Birks until August! I’ve wanted a pair of Birkenstocks since middle school, and finally at the age of 24 I am the proud owner of these babies! I couldn’t recommend them enough if you’re looking for an everyday type of shoe that goes with pretty much everything.

Secret Clinical Strength Deodorant

I don’t care who you are, suffering through the day with a deodorant that doesn’t do it’s job is absolutely miserable. Whether the scent makes things 10x worse as the day goes on, or you end up ruining your outfit with the always dreaded sweat stains, it’s just not a risk I’m willing to take.

I’ve been partnering with Secret Deodorant for a few months now trying out their Secret Clinical Strength Deodorant, and I’m happy to report that it’s just as good as it was when I first started using it! My favorite is still the Secret Clinical Strength Clear Gel, and the fact that it has 2x the sweat protection vs an ordinary antiperspirant makes me feel 100% confident to wear whatever I want in this crazy summer heat!

Lots of Layered Jewelry

I don’t know what it is about summer, but it makes me want to pull out all of the jewelry I’ve ever owned, and wear it all at once. 😂 Stacked bangles, layered rings on every finger, and dainty necklaces are a few of my favorites. Y’all know I’m all about laid back style, and grabbing a few pieces of light jewelry on my way out the door is my favorite way to pull an entire look together. Speaking of jewelry, my wedding ring still doesn't fit. 😭 I hate posting photos without it so if it's something you noticed, know that I'm not wearing it simply because my darn fingers are swollen + it will totally get stuck and cut off all circulation. The struggle is so real. 😅

A Pair of Sunnies You LOVE

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but my head is perfectly round. Like, pumpkin head kind of round. 🙈 It’s always been a struggle for me to find a pair of sunglasses that I really love that don’t take over my entire face until I got these sent to me from Free People!

I love everything about them so much that I bought myself a second pair so that I had one in my car and one in Sean’s! Never underestimate the power of a good pair of sunnies. Especially on those days when you wake up late, realize you don’t have any food in the house, and have to run through Starbucks looking a hot mess … Not that it’s something that happens to me every other day or anything. 😅

30 Week Bumpdate 💗

In case you missed our big announcement on Instagram, IT'S A GIRL! 💗 We had planned on finding out with a gender reveal party with our close friends and family by our sides, but between my constant sickness, neither of us loving the pressure of being the center of attention, and the fact that our new house is in no shape to host a party, we decided to find out a little differently. As in, when we had our anatomy ultrasound we decided on a whim we wanted to find out right then and there. Patience, planning, and executing events are definitely not things I would call my strengths. 😂

Honestly? We were both so surprised! I really didn't have a hunch one way or the other, but had thought boy most of the time because I knew that's the way that Sean was leaning ... I really think we were both in shock when we left that appointment! Neither of us had any big reaction or anything, but I think a lot of that came from just being so thankful that everything else with the ultrasound showed that she is perfectly healthy. The reality set in that night when we made a Target run for sweet baby things that we have a daughter ... we both couldn't be more excited. Oh, and hearing Sean refer to us as "his girls"? 😍 Y'all, just when I thought I couldn't love this man anymore than I already do, he says something like that and totally proves me wrong.

We shared the news with both of our family's with cupcakes from the same bakery that did our wedding deserts, and had them fill them with pink buttercream ... Watching everyone's reactions when they bit into those cupcakes was priceless! Coming from a family of all girls, the running joke has been that we wouldn't know what to do with anything else! I can tell you one thing for sure, Emerson Grey, you are already the most loved baby girl in the entire world! Now, onto the rest of this bumpdate ...

I think it's safe to say that we're both crazy excited to welcome our sweet girl into the world asap, but at the same time, we wouldn't be terribly mad if she decided to hang out for a while longer. 😉  We have so much left to do to prepare for her arrival, but I'm enjoying just taking everything in day by day at this point. I can't believe that we're only a couple of months away from meeting her face to face!

Sleeping on my stomach, having any sort of body awareness (I swear I bump into things a million times a day), not waking up at 4am on the dot every morning to pee, being able to move around without my muscles aching like crazy ... you know, the usual stuff. 😂 I'm so thankful that, for the most part, I've had a pretty uneventful pregnancy (aside from a couple of anxious moments induced by too many hours on google), but I have to say ... this has definitely not been an easy journey for me. I'll delve more into all of that in a post all of it's own, but to keep it simple, I miss feeling like myself. I've been trying my best to live in the moment as much as possible, focus on the joy I feel with her constant (not so tiny) movements reminding me that she's there, and recently trying harder to not complain of every ache and pain and nauseous moment. Growing a tiny human is definitely no walk in the park, but this healthy baby girl is worth every moment of it.

Girlfriend is wiggling and rolling and kicking and punching every second of every day. To the point where I actually start to worry a bit if I haven't felt her in 10 minutes! I don't think she has a lot of room in there with my short frame so I feel every little flinch, hiccup, and slight bit of movement that she makes ... It's the best and weirdest feeling in the entire world. Sean will reach his hand over to feel her moving around, and always thinks she's going crazy until I remind him every time that it's just the way she is all the time! 😂

Oh, and did I mention how stinking stubborn she is!? She'll be moving for 20 minutes straight, but the second I grab someone else's hand to feel her wiggling, she'll stop. They'll move their hand away, and she'll start right back up again! It's the craziest thing ... She has to know that it's someone else's hand. Either that, or my breathing / heart rate / something changes when someone else's hand is on my belly.

We've continued our Saturday morning "tradition" of checking the apps on my phone to see how big Emmy has grown each week ... our app says she's as big as a cucumber, but y'all, I'm just not buying it. Unless we have a different kind of cucumber in Kentucky than the rest of the world, this girl is definitely bigger than that!

I covered most of this earlier, and in the spirit of not complaining a ton, I'm feeling ok. I feel so immensely blessed and blown away by what my body is capable of, but I also find myself wishing I could be one of those blissed out women who love every minute of pregnancy. Everyone's journey is so different, and this is definitely not how I expected to feel when I pictured myself being pregnant. Outside of the physical things and mental cloudiness, I'm loving every second of being able to be the one to carry, protect, and love on my baby girl everyday!

Still no crazy cravings to report, but I would be totally content eating nothing but apples with peanut butter, cookies + cream ice cream, and mexican food for the rest of my life. Now that I think about it though, that's really not much different than me on any other day (pregnant or not) so I guess it doesn't really count.

Still not a huge fan of pizza, and that's pretty much the only thing that never sounds good ... We ordered our go-to from Dominos the other night (thin crust fiery hawaiian) because it was too late to grab anything else, and after just one small piece I was totally done. I have no idea why, but any kind of pizza makes me feel so sick!

Emmy is growing like crazy which means this sweet bump is, too! I pretty much look the same everywhere else aside from my belly which I'm totally not complaining about! One thing that has changed is the swelling in my hands and feet. My wedding ring doesn't fit anymore (tried to put it on for a shoot this morning and it got stuck! 😳), and I'm officially not going to be wearing any shoes other than of my Birks until August. Thank goodness it's summer because I have no idea what I would do if it were cold outside!

And that about covers it! I have so many posts saved over in my drafts about my pregnancy journey, and I can't wait to put the finishing touches on them to share them with you all. I go through an ebb and flow when it comes to writing, but when I have something strong on my heart that I'm trying to process myself, it's like therapy for me to journal it out and hit publish. Journaling through this space helps me learn more about myself every time I sit down to write something outside of the box and a little bit deeper than usual. As always, thank you so much for following along + catching up with me. I appreciate it more than you know!

Summer Collection is LIVE! ☀️

I feel like it's been ages since I launched a new collection, and I have to say that this is my favorite one to date. I've been working like crazy to get this out for you guys in time to order things for your summer vacations, holiday celebrations + everything else that comes with everyone's favorite season, and I can't wait to hear what you think about everything that I've created!

The Inspiration

All of the things that comes with this time of year just make my heart happy. Coming out of a season where I just do not do well at all (me + the cold + the dark to not do well together), stepping into a sunshine frame of mind was exactly what I needed. Warm weather, more time spent outdoors than inside, and purely laid back style. Y'all know me ... I'm all about that laid back life! This collection touches on all of my favorite parts of Summer; trips to the lake, being on vacation mode, and the effortless summer vibes we all know and love.

Oh, the process of this collection ... I've never really talked through my creative process before, and based on the feedback I got on this Instagram post, I'll definitely be diving in fully with a blog post all of it's own. With this collection especially, I worked so much better under the pressure of wanting to get this out into the world than I did when I was just sitting on the idea.

I started with collecting and playing around with different quotes and phrases I had saved to an Inspiration File on my computer, and then manipulated them into something all my own. This part was honestly the most difficult of everything that came with putting this collection together! I ended up with 40 different sayings I wanted to use, and narrowing them down to the ones you see in the collection now was no easy task! It took a bunch of texts to my momma, Sean reading through the list over and over again, and finally me just sticking to a darn decision because I was cutting it close on time! I'm so thrilled with the ones that I landed on, and I think they all add their own little something to the line that just wouldn't be the same otherwise.

After I narrowed down what I wanted to say, it was time to move onto the artwork. It's been so long since I've sat down at my desk with brush pens, ink, and a bunch of paper to just create. Sean helped me set up my new office a bit so that I could have a dedicated place to work, and I spent a week and a half straight locked in that space from morning until night lettering the same things over and over. At one point, he walked into my office to let me know to come down for dinner, and I was laying on the floor in front of my TV with Kodah claiming everything I had created up until that point was terrible. That's when I knew I was on the verge of almost breaking through to what I wanted the artwork to be, and I let it sit for a couple of days. When I came back to it I was so stoked to what I found. It was done. Well ... almost. 😉

From there, I perfected all of the lettering, got the layouts just right, and started mocking them up for my printer. When I got the samples in I just knew that you all were going to be just as in love with this line as I am. If I had any doubts up until that point, my sisters definitely cleared that up when they all asked for one of each design for their own closets!

The hardest part of this entire launch for me has been the fact that I can't actually try any of these pieces on myself to see how they truly fit because this BUMP! Thank goodness that I have four little sisters who could all try them on for me and give me feedback. From trying on the samples to carving out time for a photoshoot to model the entire collection, I really couldn't have launched this without them.

With this collection came a whole new range of products that I've introduced at CTD. I've always wanted to expand from the single style of t-shirt and art prints that I've offered in the past, and I couldn't be happier with how everything came together! There's now apparel to fit everyone's style ... from fitted tees, slouchy tanks (these are my personal favorite!), cozy sweatshirts, to relaxed tees, I've got you covered! On top of the new range of apparel, I've also added something I'm super stoked about ... baseball caps! I seriously LIVE in hats these days so designing a few of my own was a total dream.

And that about covers it! Thank you all so much for your never ending support ... I really couldn't do any of this without you! I hope you love this collection just as much as I do! To say thanks, I'm running a giveaway on Instagram for a $50 shop credit to Chelcey Tate Designs! Head over to this link (@chelceytate on Instagram) to enter to win!
