7 Months of Emmy Grey

Oh, hey Emmy Grey. πŸ˜‰ No shocker, but your mama's been slacking on updates. I cannot believe you're already 8 months old! Right now, your daddy's feeding you cinnamon apples with oatmeal so I can spend some time documenting your sweet little life, and you're loving every bit of it. You keep us busy in the absolute best way possible, and before I get carried away, here's a snapshot of your life from the last few months! You are SO loved!

WEIGHT

You hit double digits when you were 5 months old πŸ™Œ, and as of last night, you're officially 13lbs 12oz! You're still on the petite side, but let's be honest, with my genes you're probably always going to be that way! πŸ˜‰
Β

SIZES

Still in size 1 diapers! You've been wearing 6-9 months in sleepers, and 3-6 months in dresses.
Β

SLEEP

Oh, sweet girl, we've recently forgotten what sleeping through the night even feels like. Call it a growth spurt, teething, a random regression, whatever you want, but at the end of the day (or night in this case) your mama is TIRED! You've been waking up every 3 hours or so in the middle of the night, BUT you've swapped out your 20 minute power naps for ones that last a couple hours at a time which in and of itself is cause for celebration! πŸ™Œ

You're still sleeping in our room, but a few weeks ago you made the move from sleeping in your dock-a-tot in our bed to your co-sleeping bassinet! I have to admit, it was more of an adjustment for me than it was for you, and it's kind of silly that it was an adjustment at all. Your bassinet literally sits right above our bed. πŸ˜‚

I was so used to falling asleep with my hand resting on your little belly, but I have to say, not having to worry about waking you up when we get out of bed in the morning is definitely a major plus! Not to mention the fact that your own little bed that sits above ours is much safer now that you're rolling around like a crazy person. πŸ˜…

LIKES

When your daddy comes home from work (you laugh, kick, and squeal every time!), being held all the time, your BFF Calvin, growling , when your daddy plays music for you and makes up random songs, tags on stuffed animals, pears and apple cinnamon oats, Baby Shark and shows with puppets in them, waving hi and bye bye (your CeCe taught you that!), your bag of wipes is your favorite toy, playing with your feet, your triangle teether toy, your activity center and jumper (even though you haven't figured out how to jump yet), rolling around like a steam roller, your daddy's Apple Watch, shaking your head no, the macrame hanging in the foyer, you get SO excited when you're around animals, FaceTiming, music of any kind, and pulling hair like it's your job.
Β

DISLIKES

Getting dressed when it requires anything to go over your head, doing the same thing for too long, sitting still in your carseat, carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes (apparently anything orange πŸ˜‚), and getting out of the bath.

NICKNAMES

Em, Emmy, M&M, Little Love, Bright Eyes, Boo Nugget, Baby Love + Emmy Boo

MILESTONES

Waving: You and your CeCe worked on this for a couple of weeks before it stuck! Every single time she saw you she would say hi / bye bye and wave. It was constant repetition and you two practiced constantly. πŸ˜‚ We all freaked out when you finally did it!! According to Google, you're not supposed to be waving at all until you're 10 months old so basically you're a genius baby. πŸ˜‰

Your first word: You kind of said mama one time (and I got it on camera!), but I'm not sure that it actually counts because you were randomly babbling so we're claiming your first word as dada! Which, thanks to me obsessively documenting everything in life, we got on camera, too! Your daddy was holding you on his shoulders, and you were cracking up and babbling, and all of a sudden you just said it! And then you kept saying it. It's the sweetest thing in the entire world! You also say baba, you whisper bye bye when you're waving (which is probably your real first word because you actually know what it means!) πŸ˜πŸ˜, and you growl. A lot. It's basically another form of communication for you these days. πŸ˜‚

Eating: You're still nursing like a champ, and you've been eating rice cereal and different fruit and veggie purees for about a month now. You LOVE pears and apple cinnamon oats, you don't hate avocado or bananas, but the faces that you made (and the fact that you spit an entire spoonful back out at me πŸ˜‚) makes me think you don't really love carrots or mango. You're eating real food 2-3 times a day, and exclusively nursing the rest of the time! You still totally refuse bottles so we're joined at the hip 99% of the time. 😘

Sitting up: I don't know why it's so funny to me when you sit up all by yourself, but it totally is! Maybe it's because you're still so tiny, but girl, you are STRONG! You're still a tiny bit wobbly, and I definitely wouldn't trust you sitting up solo on anything but carpet or a soft surface, but you can definitely do it! You get so excited when we take your hands and you pull yourself up from sitting to standing ... you start looking around like crazy as if you're trying to be like "Guys! Are you seeing this!?". It cracks us up every single time!

Rolling around / army crawling / shimmying:  No signs of crawling just yet, but you're definitely mobile when you want to be! We always call it steam rolling, but you literally set your eyes on something, and then roll over to it in 2 seconds flat. You're getting FAST, and we definitely can't leave you laying on the bed anymore without keeping a close eye on you! You also army crawl + shimmy. πŸ˜‚ You'll lay on your belly and pull yourself to your destination (usually a package of baby wipes or Calvin), or you'll lay on your back and wiggle side to side until you're all the way across the room / bed / wherever you were trying to go. It's seriously so funny. You crack us up! πŸ˜‚

Shaking your head no: You started doing this randomly when you were 6 months old, and for some reason it's stuck. πŸ˜‚ I SWEAR you know what you're doing / saying!!! When you're done eating, you shake your head no to tell me you don't want any more. We ask you questions, you shake your head no. But there's also random moments when you'll just start kicking your feet / shaking your head side to side / and generally just getting excited. You're pretty much the smartest baby in the entire world, and you have us laughing so much we're crying DAILY! ❀️

RANDOM THINGS I WANT TO REMEMBER

When I unswaddle you in the mornings, or when I come to get you after a nap, you immediately start waving. 😍 It MELTS my heart. It's like you're saying "Oh, hi mom. I missed you 😭".

Speaking on waking up from naps, I think it's officially time to retire your Rock n' Play which is such a bummer because we LOVE that thing! You've started pulling yourself up from laying down to sitting straight up when you wake up from a nap and it's HILARIOUS. You start looking around for us and just sit there until we pick you up. πŸ˜‚

It's finally warm outside again so we've been taking daily walks with your CeCe, and you love them for the most part! They used to put you to sleep, but now you get bored halfway through and I end up having to carry all 13lbs+ of you for half a mile home each time. πŸ™ˆ

We went on a walk with your daddy the other day, and he decided to pull his skateboard out for the first time this year. Every time he almost fell, or did a trick that made the board slam down on the pavement, you thought it was SO funny!! I was crying because I was laughing so hard at how hard you were laughing!

You're so used to saying hi and bye bye to everyone at the front door, so now anytime we walk near it you automatically start waving. πŸ˜‚

Mornings are your favorite, and you're starting to make me love them, too! You usually want to get up before us, so I'll unswaddle you, and lay you in-between us. Most mornings you'll either lay there quietly and play with Calvin, or you'll cuddle up with either me or your daddy and fall back asleep. Laying in bed with just the three of us before your daddy goes to work every morning is my favorite part of the day. You're always in a good mood when you first wake up, and SUPER chatty so we're pretty much guaranteed to start the day laughing!

Watching the Chelsea (soccer!) game every weekend has become one of your daddy's favorite things. He turns on the game, and you two sit on the couch and watch it together!

You are SO interested in everything around you! So much so that you sometimes prefer looking around over nursing. πŸ˜‚ When we're at home it's no big deal, but when we're out in public it can be kind of an issue. πŸ™ˆ P.S. Shoutout to the older gentleman at Target who saw me readjusting you in your wrap with everything exposed in the middle of the chip aisle, and acted like there was nothing out of the ordinary happening. ✌️

You do this new thing where you unlatch when you're nursing and you PINCH ME and you think it's the funniest thing in the world. It hurts. And it's hilarious. πŸ˜‚

You've figured out how to walk around the house a little bit in your walker! I'll be cooking dinner and you'll be by the dining room table, and next thing I know you're right behind me!

Your daddy has officially brought you in on his jokes and scheming. If I'm coming upstairs / going downstairs, he'll hide behind the wall and hold you out around the corner so it looks like you're standing there by yourself. πŸ˜‚ One night, I was coming out of the bathroom and he sat down on the basement stairs (the bathroom + the basement are right in front of one another), and held you up in the window so all I saw was your little body floating there. I freaked out at first because, let's be honest, it looked totally creepy πŸ˜‚ and then started laughing! You were babbling and waving hi to me and everything. Never a dull moment!

There's a mama bird who built her nest on our patio fan in the backyard, and we walk over to the back door every morning and say hi to her. You and your daddy say goodnight to her every night before we go upstairs to bed. ❀️

Mornings are starting to become my favorite which is something I never thought I'd say. πŸ˜‚ We listen to worship music every morning when you're taking a bath / I'm feeding you your cereal, and the last few times you've started "singing" along with me, and you'll randomly mimic me and lift your hands up. 😍

You can't lay down for a nap without Calvin! If I lay you down and forget him, you wake up and start looking for him. It's the sweetest thing. He goes everywhere with you!

Just like your mama, and especially your daddy, music is your favorite. You love when we're watching The Voice or American Idol because of all of the music, and you watch right alongside us!

I seriously can't wait to look back on all of these posts with Emmy when she's older! Writing all of these things down while they're fresh in my mind is such a gift, and I'm beyond thankful for this space where I can document all of the little things that make up our life exactly how it is right in this moment. ❀️ Thanks for following along, y'all!
